Data Communications - Samsung Joins WiMax Forum

Samsung Electronics recently announced that it has joined the WiMAX Forum, a move that is expected to add weight to the wireless communication standard.

Samsung Electronics had long played a role in driving for IEEE 802.16 standards and the Wibro (Wireless Broadband) technology. Now after the accession, the Korean vendor will further promote and certify the compatibility and interoperability of broadband wireless devices based on IEEE 802.16 standards.

Samsung Electronics has been developing 802.16e-based devices, which are slated for launch in the Korea by the first half of 2006, and involved in introducing WiMAX Forum Certified devices to the global market.
